VMWare Configuration

VMWare configuration will allow 12Port Horizon to connect via vCenter's REST API to enable discovery of the VMWare instance's Inventory. Collected inventory includes all powered-on VMs from each available Host returned by vCenter. From this list of returned VMs, 12Port will gather Name, Operating System and IP address of each, which are used for Import purposes.

12Port VMWare configuration is required only if using the Import from VMWare option.

Note

VMWare Tools is required to be installed and running on any VM that is to be imported.

Note

Connectivity only supports native username and password based authentication. If you are using SSO (single sign-on) only, please create a native login specifically for use with this configuration.

Creating a new VMWare Connection

To create a VMWare integration, please follow the steps provided in this section.

  1. Log in with an account that has either the System Administrator or Configuration Manager role in this tenant.
  2. Navigate to Configuration > VMWare and click the Add button to create a new VMWare integration.
  3. Click on the parameter name for details about each or follow the guidance provided here:
    • Name: Enter a unique, but recognizable name for this VMWare connection.
    • URL: Enter the vCenter REST API URL in the form https://host:port.
    • User: Enter the username of a native, non-SSO, account that can read this VMWare instance's Inventory.
    • Password: Enter the valid password of the above User account. If the password is changed in the future, please remember to update this integration with this new password.
    • Enabled: Click this option to enable this configuration which is required when using the Import from VMWare feature.
  4. Use the Verify Trust button to verify or to establish trust with the VMWare host by importing its certificate into the application's keystore.
  5. Next, use the Test Connection button to confirm connectivity and authentication between the 12Port and VMWare hosts.
  6. Finally, use the Save button to complete the integration.

Once the configuration is complete and the Test Connection is successful, you are ready to use the Import from VMWare feature to create new assets in the Asset Database from VMWare.
