Personal Sites

Introduction

Personal Sites provide users with an isolated workspace within the PAM Vault for managing their own personal assets independently of the primary site vault. Unlike the main site, which is designed for collaborative administration and shared access, a Personal Site is owned by a single user and is intended for storing and managing personal credentials and assets.

A Personal Site is provisioned as a separate site within the PAM Vault. This separation ensures that personal assets remain isolated from organizational assets while maintaining the same secure storage and management capabilities for supported asset types.

Personal Sites are intended to provide a lightweight, secure environment for personal asset management without introducing the administrative and operational features available in standard sites.

Use Cases

Personal Sites are designed for scenarios where users need to securely manage assets that should not be stored within shared organizational sites.

Common use cases include:

  • Storing personal administrative credentials that are not intended for shared use.
  • Managing personal lab, development, or testing systems.
  • Maintaining credentials for individually managed corporate cloud or SaaS accounts.
  • Organizing personal infrastructure assets separately from production environments.
  • Securely storing credentials that require vault protection but do not participate in team workflows.
  • Sharing temporary Safe Links for personal assets when limited access is required.

Prerequisites

Before users can provision and use Personal Sites, the following requirements must be met:

  • Personal Site Owners must be enabled by a Site Administrator.
  • Users must either:
    • Be a Site Administrator, or
    • Be assigned the Personal Site Owner site role by an Admin.
  • Asset types intended for Personal Site usage must be configured with the Personal Site property enabled from the Management > Asset Types page.

Only asset types explicitly configured for Personal Site support can be created within a Personal Site.

Setup

Enable Personal Site Access

Site Administrators can allow users to create Personal Sites by assigning the Personal Site Owner site role from the Management > Site Roles page.

Site Administrators automatically have the ability to provision and access their Personal Sites.

Important

If the Personal Site Owner site role is revoked, the user loses access to their Personal Site. The Personal Site menu option is no longer available, preventing easy access to the site and its assets. The Personal Site and all assets stored within it are not deleted and remain intact. If the Personal Site Owner role is reassigned, the user regains menu access to their existing Personal Site and its contents.

Provision a Personal Site

Once the required permissions have been assigned:

  1. Navigate to Database > Personal Site from the main navigation menu.
  2. On first access, a confirmation prompt is displayed.
  3. Confirm the action to provision the Personal Site.
  4. After provisioning is complete, the Personal Site becomes available for normal use.

Configure Supported Asset Types

Asset types must be explicitly marked as available for Personal Sites before they can be used in Personal Sites.

The Personal Site property can be enabled for supported asset types. Current supported asset types include:

  • Container
  • Secret
  • Unix Host
  • WEB Portal
  • Windows Host

Users can access their Personal Site by navigating to Database > Personal Site.

When a user enters their Personal Site, the navigation breadcrumbs display:

Home > Personal Site

The breadcrumb indicates that the user is currently working within their Personal Site.

The breadcrumb links provide the following navigation options:

  • Personal Site – Opens the Personal Site's Dashboard.
  • Home – Navigates to its parent site (e.g. /root) of the organizational site, returning the user to the shared site vault outside of their Personal Site.

This provides both a clear indication of whether the user is currently working within their Personal Site or the primary organizational site and an option to navigate away.

Available Functionality

Personal Sites currently support the following capabilities:

  • Create and manage supported assets
  • Unlock credentials for supported assets
  • Generate and share Safe Links

Capabilities

Personal Sites are intentionally designed as a simplified asset management environment and do not include the full feature set available in standard sites.

The following functionality is not currently supported:

  • Remote sessions
  • Job execution
  • Password reset operations
  • Permissions management and sharing
  • Approval workflows
  • Collaborative administration

Additionally:

  • Personal Sites are owned by a single user.
  • Assets remain isolated from the primary site vault.
  • Only asset types explicitly enabled for Personal Site usage can be stored.
